Desert Punk Collector’s Tin

Opportunity

Known for its distinctive and imaginative packaging in the anime market, our customer Funimation came to us for the collector’s release of Desert Punk, a Japanese "Mad Max" kind of tale – an entertaining blend of sci-fi, action, and comedy. It demanded a package that would go the distance in promoting its unique appeal.

Solution

Our client wanted to present the complete series in a decorative tin. To make it stand out from the other collections on the shelf, we applied hand-sculpted, three-dimensional embossing to bring the cover art to life: a dramatic portrait of the title character in his uniform, mask, and helmet. To give the feel of the desert, we added a crackle varnish for an enticing tactile experience, and by employing various printing techniques to amplify the dimensional effects, we made optimum use of the reflective medium.

Result

When people pick it up, they cannot put it down! This project truly exhibits the versatility of tin in the decorative process; the excitement and allure that it generates, while maintaining real economy, is "brand building" at its best.
