World-renowned for their nature programs like Planet Earth, BBC Video wanted an appropriate package for their 2-disc launch of Nature’s Most Amazing Events for their BBC Earth product line. The package had to meet the ecofriendly expectations of their audience while also meeting a specific budget. The publisher had considered all existing package solutions currently offered in the market but couldn’t find one that met all their criteria.

Solution

Necessity, as the mother of invention, inspired us to create the next generation of our plastic-free DVD wallet and slipcase. By reducing the design to a two-panel format, we were able to meet the budget requirement. We enhanced the disc pocket with a full embossing for greater ease of use and disc protection. Using a recycled stock with a minimum of 30% PCW and our 3-ply construction, we achieved a durable feel and function with an ideal surface for the panorama of artwork.

Result

After careful and thorough consideration of many nonplastic, paperboard, and plastic and all-plastic options, BBC chose the Tri-Plex design for their DVD and BD flagship releases. Its perceived value, economy, and great looks, made from a recycled and renewable resource, best embodied what sustainable packaging means to us, our customer, and Mother Nature herself.
