Naxos Audiobooks Children’s Series for Costco

Opportunity

Our client, Naxos Audiobooks, brought us a very specific packaging challenge: create a series of collections from their classic children’s audio programming– for an exclusive, national release with Costco, the specialty retailer. The package had to deliver the large-footprint perceived value that merchandises so well on the Costco table displays. It had to hold eight discs for each of the six collections. They wanted us to use their existing disc product, manage the collation of all 48 discs into the new packaging, and deliver an aggressive, all-inclusive price to make the program work.

Solution

We created the eye catching, almost 15" x 11" footprint by using four double-disc DVD-size molded trays, flush-mounted side by side to a double-thick paperboard base for rigidity. This generic interior was used for all the collections and slid into an open-ended 4-color sleeve, each sleeve having title-specific graphics. To meet the required budget, we overcame the significant labor element of the package manufacture and collation via our China production group. The unique and patented two-disc trays were imported from France and the existing disc product had to be imported from the UK– all this on a tight deadline and requiring the experience of our international logistics group.

Result

With our package, Naxos could tap into their extensive catalogue and repurpose their high-quality product into a valuable, appealing, and budget-priced collection. The package presentation enabled them to work with Costco, their retail partner, in configuring a special program that targeted the Costco customer. Both parties benefited.
