Opportunity
An eye for beauty…
Raquel Welch has been an icon of beauty and glamour, synonymous with elegance and sophistication. The launch of her ultra-premium line of hair extensions challenged us to create a package that would both please the eye and be functional. We identified these goals for merchandising the product:
- Convey luxury, featuring Raquel’s image
- Make the color and style of the product visible without its needing to be touched or handled
- Accommodate various lengths and style of hair products
- Fit display requirements for shelf, table, or peg-hook merchandising
- Have extensive copy area for product use and care instructions
- Convert from a ‘selling package’ to a discreet home ‘storage package’
Solution
Using 1/8"-thick board, we created a sturdy, rigid tray finished with a complete wrap and a magnetic closure with a ribbon-pull for ease of opening and secure closing. The interior tray that holds the hair extensions is protected with a clear plastic lid so the main package cover can be opened and the product viewed without being touched. We encircled the main front cover panel with a gorgeous printed band featuring Raquel’s signature image, with a silky matte coating, foil stamping, and a die-cut window for viewing the hair extension inside the tray. The printed band is removable after purchase offering more of the silken feel of matte film lamination with spot UV gloss pattern for texture and a more subtle brand graphic. Finally, the package has a multipurpose hang hook applied on the back that folds out for a peg-hook display.
Result
A package that successfully merchandises both the product and the brand, conveys richness and beauty, and breaks new ground in the market place.
