The sleuthing of Hercule Poirot, on 28 CDs, demanded an intriguing package presentation, one suitable for that special customer who desires both the pleasure of the recordings and the pride of ownership. The solution artists at Tri-Plex met the challenge.
Solution
We designed an appeal that was structural, tactile, and visual. The compact and sturdy 80-pt. hinged, rigid, shoulder-box construction feels like an archival storage vault that, when opened, shows the seven spines of each of the 4-Disc gatefold wallets. Using a reverse-style box hinge for the first time, we were able to save cost through increased automation on this hinged-lid design, which is typically produced completely by hand.
The subtle yet striking use of matte and gloss surfaces in the graphic design meant producing a durable matte black finish that would be resistant to scuffing and contrast against the mirrored high-gloss elements – all within critical registration to each other. We used a gloss film lamination throughout, with a spot dull aqueous coating that achieved just the right balance of contrast and surface protection.
Result
The rich feel and the dense dark color offset by the brilliant red title, grab the imagination: one can't help peaking inside this mysterious container. A perfect solution for packaging the mysteries of Poirot.
